The Military Medal (MM)

... was discontinued in 1993, and replaced by the extension of the Military Cross (MC) to all ranks. Both decorations were created in 1914 (the MM actually in 1916, but restrospective to 1914); prior to 1993, the MC was only awarded to commissioned officers of the rank of captain or below.
